Ciao Pressは、ニコラ・ポリによって2018年に始まった出版の遊び場です。もともとは、パーソナルな書籍が“セルフパブリッシュ”と見られないように偽装する手段として始まりましたが、やがて才能あふれるアーティストたちの美しいプロジェクトを、洗練された書籍へと昇華させる存在へと成長しました。現代写真の分野で活動しながら、写真表現の境界や、今日における写真集とは何かを問い続けています。
Ciao press is a publishing playground initiated from Nicolas Polli in 2018. Started as a way to mask a personal publication in order to avoid to look like a self published book, Ciao press kept transforming beautiful projects by great talents in elaborate books. Working in the field of contemporary photography, Ciao press explore the boundaries of photography and what does mean to create a photo book today.

もし少しでもイタリア語が分かるなら、Ciao Pressという名前の意味がすぐに分かるはずです。挨拶と別れの両方を、軽やかで陽気なトーンで表現しているのです。私たちがニコラ・ポリと出会ったのは、彼がスイスの伝説的な『YET Magazine』を手がけていた頃の2014年。ルガーノ湖を望む廃墟のヴィラで開催された小さなアートブックフェアに招いてくれたことがきっかけでした。そこから始まった友情は今も続いています。Ciao Pressの本は、スイス的な洗練されたグラフィックデザインと、遊び心と深さを併せ持つアーティスティックな写真表現が融合した、まさにアーティストブックの傑作ばかりです。
If you just know a minimum Italian, you understand the name of Nicolas Polli’s publishing project: It says hello and goodbye, but both in a joyful tone. We met when Nicolas was running the legendary YET magazine from Switzerland and invited us in 2014 to a small art book fair in an abandoned villa on top of the Lugano lake. A memorable night that started a lasting friendship. The books published by Ciao Press combine the pinnacle of Swiss graphic design with unique playful and profound artistic concepts and photography, each a masterpiece of an artists’ book.
