フォルカ・レナー（Volker Renner）はドイツ・ハンブルクを拠点に写真の分野で活動するアーティストで、これまでに30タイトル以上の書籍を刊行しています。世界各地のブックフェアにも積極的に参加し、その作品集はユニークなコンセプトとストーリーで知られています。本トークでは、レナーがどのようにアイデアを生み出しているのか、またコミッションワークと並行しながらどのように書籍制作を続けているのかについてお話を伺います。あわせて、実際に彼の作品集を紹介しながら、制作の背景や考え方についても掘り下げていきます。

Volker Renner is an artist working in the field of photography from Hamburg, Germany, who has published more than 30 books to date. He actively participates in book fairs around the world, and his photobooks are known for their unique concepts and narratives. In this talk, we will explore how Renner develops his ideas and how he continues to work on books while balancing his commissioned work. Alongside the discussion, he will present a selection of his books and share insights into their background and his approach to making them.

    シリーズとコレクションは、フォルカ・レナー（Volker Renner）の制作における基本的な枠組みである。個々の写真は単体で完結するものではなく、より大きな視覚的な構造の一部として機能し、それぞれのモチーフが物語の手がかりとなっていく。
    レナーの作品は、エンターテインメントの周縁や、ありふれたものの曖昧な境界、そして作られた「本物らしさ」が生む違和感に目を向けている。ユーロビジョン・ソング・コンテスト、ラスベガス、刑事コロンボ、大衆小説、ジャクソン・ポロックといった多様な参照を通じて、幻想や欲望の広がりを描き出している。こうした実践において、フォトブックは重要な形式であり、各シリーズは丁寧に設計された一冊としてまとめられている。
    リューネブルクで応用文化学を学んだ後、レナー（1977年生まれ）はハンブルク美術大学で視覚コミュニケーションを専攻し、その後ライプツィヒ美術大学のピーター・ピラー（Peter Piller）のクラスにて学んだ。

    The series and the collection are the basic registers of Volker Renner’s creative practice. The individual photograph is always a module in a larger visual syntax; each motif, a clue that contributes to a shared narrative. Renner’s works contemplate the margins of entertainment, the blurry edges of the trivial, and the irritations of simulated genuineness, extending the arc traced by Renner’s earlier projects, which unfurl a panorama of illusions and aspirations, from the Eurovision Song Contest to Las Vegas and Columbo, from dime novels to Jackson Pollock. Not coincidentally, the photobook is Renner’s preferred format—each series is gathered in a meticulously designed publication, an album of intimate wonderment.
    After studying applied cultural studies in Lüneburg, Volker Renner (b. 1977) enrolled at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg to obtain a degree in visual communication and rounded out his education in Peter Piller’s master class at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig.
